Open Source vs Proprietary Software

Open source software -  Usually free software that uses an open development process and is licensed to include the source code so the user can edit the software to meet their needs.

Proprietary software -  (sometimes referred to as closed source software) is software that legally remains the property of the organisation, group, or individual who created it.  The source code can not be seen or accessed.
